The story behind it
The Urnes style takes its name from the stave church at Urnes, Norway, where carved planks from an older 11th-century church were set into the walls. Thin animals and serpents loop through each other in long, open curves. It is the last Viking art style, roughly 1050 to 1150.
These hoops are a stylised take, not a replica of the portal: interlace scrollwork cut deep in 925 silver, dark between, five sections on a slightly oval hoop.
