The story behind it
Norse myth puts a serpent, Jörmungandr, in the sea around the world. Thor once hooked it while fishing: the scene is carved on the Altuna stone in Sweden and, most likely, on a 10th-century stone in Gosforth church, Cumbria. In Old Norse, ormr is serpent; dreki, dragon.
These hoops are a stylised take, not a replica: serpent scales wrapping the whole 20mm hoop, fine dotwork between them, polished on an oxidised ground.
